About Dr. Christy Reeder, PhD, CGP, SEP
Psychologist in Austin, TX
How I Came to This Work
I came to this work through my own journey of understanding how early experiences shape who we become. I know what it’s like to feel stuck in patterns you can name but can’t seem to shift. To look competent on the outside while feeling lost on the inside. To long for the kind of relationships and aliveness that feel just out of reach.
That personal understanding shapes everything about how I work. I don’t pretend to have all the answers. I don’t offer false promises or oversimplified solutions. But I do offer this: my presence. My willingness to stay with you in the hard parts. My belief in your capacity to heal, even when you can’t see it yourself.
How I Work
Real change doesn’t happen through insight alone (although insight can be powerful). It also happens when we work at the level where patterns were formed: in your body, in relationship, in the implicit memories that shape how you experience safety and connection.
I integrate EMDR, Internal Family Systems, and Somatic Experiencing—not because these are trendy modalities, but because they work at the level where trauma and attachment wounds actually live.
But more than any technique, what I offer is relationship. A place where you can be seen in your struggle and not have to hide it. Where rupture and repair can happen in real time. Where you learn, slowly and in your bones, that you can be fully yourself and still be met with care.
For many clients, group therapy becomes the most powerful part of healing. It’s where you move from understanding your patterns to actually changing them, surrounded by others doing the same brave work.
My Commitment to You
I won’t give you easy answers or tell you what you want to hear. But I will stay with you. In the confusion. In the discomfort. In the moments when you’re sure you’re doing it wrong or it’s not working.
That’s what I’m here for—to be steady when you can’t be. To believe in your capacity to heal when you’ve lost faith. To remind you that you’re not alone in this.
This work asks a lot. It takes time and requires feeling things you’d often rather avoid. But you don’t have to do it alone. And on the other side of this work? You get to be whole. You get to show up fully in your life. You get to break the patterns that have been passed down for generations.
That’s worth staying for.
